“The Antuco Amble” Photo Print

$15.00$100.00

This print is the third in the “Chile Verdadera” series. In this mountain landscape photo, a rising sun filters through the clouds, shading the Laguna del Laja far below. Skier’s right, the Andes mountains of both Chile and Argentina loom in the distance, while the north-facing slope in the foreground beckons to be ridden. The Antuco Volcano, last erupted in 1869, is located in the Chile’s Bio-Bio (VII) Region.

“The Antuco Amble” Photo Print

The Story Behind the Photo

The Antuco Volcano was to be the first mountain I climbed (solo) with the intention of snowboarding down. My mountaineering career hadn’t really begun yet, but the 9,774′ sloping peak was well within my reach.

What I never considered? How other climbers’ poor mountain etiquette (and even more dangerous behavior) would cut my climb short. Halfway through the climb, I found myself dodging balloon-sized boulders my fellow climbers kicked down above me, and given their numbers (10+ strong) and the worsening snow conditions, I turned around about 200 feet from the summit.

And then I ambled. And glissaded. And slid. And rode. This was my descent: the Antuco Amble.
